CMHM Resources in Languages in Addition to English

We are overjoyed to witness Catholic mental health ministries (MHMs) spreading around the world! One of the challenges of this international growth is that many different languages are now spoken by those who have joined us in this mission. 

We regularly hear from interested people who are seeking resources in their native language. We sincerely appreciate this desire and need; however, it is not currently possible for CMHM to translate our large library of resources into so many different languages. 

The good news is that technological applications have begun solving this translation challenge, and we expect that they will continue to increase and improve over time. We have already begun to leverage some of these tools at CMHM.

You may have noticed that our website now has a translation feature (upper left of each webpage). It includes options for translating all our webpage content into many different languages. Though this feature has been a great help, we realize there are drawbacks to this method and that technology translations are often not as polished and accurate as a translation that an expert can achieve.

Translation is an area where we hope local MHMs will bring their gifts and knowledge to bear. We encourage you to use AI, other software, and your own expertise to translate any of CMHMs resources into the language(s) your community prefers. If none on your MHM team have the skills needed to use some of the tools recommended below, consider reaching out for help with this task to your broader parish or diocesan community.

Below we offer some translation tools that may be helpful to your community as you work to translate MHM resources into the language you desire. As we learn of more, or as others share additional translation resources with us, we will add those options to the list below.

1. Kindle: Some newer Kindle devices have translation features, and many books are available on Kindle. A suggestion you might want to investigate, is to see if a newer Kindle device will translate a book into Spanish and possibly into other desired languages for your community. Many people use Kindle, so this may be a solution for at least some of the non-native English speakers in your community. 

2. Adobe: If you are an Adobe user, see this article about how you can use Adobe to Translate PDFs.

3. Slider.ai: This is a tool designed for translating PDF documents. It enables you to convert the text within PDF files from one language to another efficiently. It also has the capability and features to translate other forms of content—Word documents, simple text, etc.

4. Veed.io: An online video editing platform that offers a range of translation features, including the ability to add subtitles, voice and video translation in multiple languages.

6. QuillBot: Enjoy completely free translation by using the power of AI to translate text quickly and accurately.
